How Do I Keep Track of What I’ve Done To My Pictures?
(Draft)
Workflow for a new user is usually nothing more than moving the pictures from the camera to a directory (folder) on their hard disk, then reviewing them and printing out the ones that look good.
More sophiscated digital users will have an informal process that might so something like this
- Copy photos from memory card or camera to Holding Folder
- Verify all photos copied successfully and can be viewed as thumbnail
- Burn all photos to CD-R. Label and store CD in a safe place.
- Review photos and delete those that are unfocused, poor lighting, or of people you don't care for
- Rename the images to something meaningful
- Move pictures to a folder (MyPictures/2003/December)
- Edit those few photos you want to print, correcting color and lighting, cropping as necessary, saving under a different name
- Print selected images
- Backup MyPictures Folder
The workflow you use depends on how involved you want to be with the whole picture taking-downloading-organizing-editing-printing process. Many of the software applications on the market can assist you with this process, making it very easy to do most of these steps automatically.
