How Do I Share My Photos?

A neat part of digital pictures is being able to share them with family and friends. You can do this a number of ways:

Hosted Photo Web Site

This is a service where you get an account, and upload your pictures to it. You can usually organize the photos into albums or groups, and can often limit exactly who can see what pictures. In the heyday of the internet, these services were usually free, because they got most of their income from customer’s printing their pictures on t-shirts, mugs, and mouse pads. Today, these services usually cost about $5 a month for 250MB of space (about 300-500 pictures).

Yahoo!Photos

PhotoBase (commonly known as PBase)

Ofoto

FotoTime - slick free photo organizer that is linked with their website to automate photo uploads

Personal Web Site

If you have a web site where you have a personal home page, you should be able to upload your own HTML pages and pictures. There are several free and low cost album generation applications that can create different looks, and even automatically upload the entire album to your host site.

Hint:  if you have a cable modem or DSL modem, you probably have a free website available to you!

Email

The easiest way to send your photos out is via e-mail. Be aware, though, that most e-mail accounts you may be sending to have a size limit, so the pictures you send out should be in JPEG format, and small enough that they will not be rejected by the recipient’s mailbox.
